Connectivity Point completed the network cabling and telephone system installation for Bangor Daily News (BDN), based in Bangor, Maine. The media company’s roughly 100 Bangor-based employees moved from the paper’s headquarters since 1954 to new office space in a seven-story white office building downtown.
As reported in the BDN, “It will be difficult to leave 491 Main St. after so many years, but we are excited about moving into the heart of the Bangor downtown,” said Todd Benoit, Chief Operating Officer for BDN. “Merchants Plaza is a great fit for us, and we want to be part of what has been admirable growth by the city downtown.”
The BDN has a total of 190 employees, including those at bureaus in towns and cities across the state from Fort Kent to Portland.
The BDN’s two floors at 1 Merchants Plaza occupy about 12,000 square feet. Connectivity Point installed a new structured cabling system using Category 6 cabling and components. This network cabling was designed and installed to make it possible for BDN to deploy a voice over IP telephone system, which was also supplied and installed by Connectivity Point’s telephony team. The telephone system featured a myriad of redundant features and a call center statistic reporting package.
Connectivity Point is now assisting BDN with the deployment of remote VOIP phones to their outlying offices. In many cases some remediation work is needed on the existing cabling infrastructure to enable this deployment to occur smoothly. The project with BDN is a great example of Connectivity Point’s expertise with voice, data and video infrastructure and our ability to be our customers One Point of contact through complicated projects.
