Estimator/Project Manager – Northern ME


The Estimator/Project Manager will be responsible for all aspects of cost estimation for assigned projects. After approval has been received for a project the estimator/project manager will be responsible for project management including conveying all necessary information to the field technicians, change orders/additional work pricing and other project management duties to ensure the successful completion of each project.



Prepare detailed time and materials estimates and proposals for each bid opportunity, design/build request and service request assigned.  Provide creative cabling solutions to compete in competitive environments. Prepare designs that meet the job requirements and the applicable codes and standards. Communicate with clients, architects, engineers and other contractors.  Acquire project documents, perform take offs, review specs, estimate materials and labor needed.  Price materials with vendors, secure pricing from sub-contractors when needed and prepare a final time and materials estimate using our estimating software.  Prepare a detailed proposal using word processing software.  This position is also responsible for managing the files and folders associated with each project.

Project Management

Manage projects in cooperation with the operations department.  Coordinate with operations on project documents needed for the field.  Work with the client, architect/engineer and other on pre-construction meetings and coordination.  Review labor reports to track progress and status of jobs.  Coordinate creation of design drawings, create a scope of work or specifications if it is a design/build job.  Resolve and negotiate submittal issues, site conflicts and other coordination issues.  Arrange to get extra sets of latest plans to be used for construction and as-built drawings.  Obtain, review, and provide feedback on construction schedule from the General Contractor.  Review actual site conditions variances from bid documents and note any changes and impact to our work.  Prepare change orders as required.  Attend all pre-construction meetings.

When construction begins: Review the job with operations and onsite personnel.  Attend project meetings and update job information with any changes.  Communicate with Operations and onsite personnel to support each project.   Visit job site regularly to verify work done vs. the design and estimate prepared.  Work with onsite staff to identify any changes to our work that will require a change order and identify any change in materials or labor that should be changed to save time or materials.  As project nears completion: review and comment on punch list issues. Facilitate resolution of punch list issues. Assist in the coordination and preparation of the close-out documentation, including maintenance manuals, as-built drawings and others documents as required for submission.   Close out project Conduct job post-mortem meeting archive all job information.

Manage projects in such a way as to exceed both the customer and the owner’s quality expectations and to minimize the overall cost of the project.  Always work to build repeat business with owners, tenants, general contractors, sub-contractors, venders, factory reps, utilities, governmental agencies, etc.

Follows all company safety policies and procedures; and reports all accidents, hazards, and equipment problems.

Attends and participates in various meetings within the company.

Performs other duties as assigned.



  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of telecommunications industry and/or installation including voice, data and video structured cabling systems.
  • BICSI RCDD Certification preferred but not required
  • Solid working knowledge of building codes, electrical codes, communication standards and installation.  Experience in communications cabling is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints, notes and specifications to provide a response that meets the requirements provided.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform basic math functions.
  • Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook) required.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
